The clients for this project wanted a highly efficient new house to be built into a south-facing hillside in a rural location.
The house is oriented east-west to expose all the interior living space to maximum south light. There is no basement, but the main floor concrete is poured over R30 polystyrene insulation. All exterior walls are 12" R-40, and the reflective steel roof is insulated to R-70. Solar heat will be stored in concrete floors at both levels. Rainwater will be stored underground and used for toilet flushing and watering the landscape. There is also a sound-engineered recording studio.

Completed 2012.
